info
Name: Lily Anne Evans
Birthday: January 30th, 1960
Played-by: Alicia Witt
Appearance: Lily has always been identified mainly by two features - her dark red hair and her green eyes. In addition to that, she has a very expressive face that tends to start to resemble the shade of her hair when she gets angry. She is a bit on the tall side 5'7", which adds to what can be an imposing sight at times. She is thinner than average and not very curvy.
Personality: Lily is extremely hot tempered and stubborn. She will not hesitate to stand up to someone if she is sure she’s right, which she generally is. She has what some would say is an overdeveloped sense of right and wrong, but she would just call it a sense of justice. She doesn’t like to use violence, but she loves verbal sparring, and sometimes this results in her being involved in a duel. She eventually got quite good at it, but picked her battles wisely.

She became a bit sensitive about her heritage in the wake of the discrimination she experienced, but truly believes it would mean nothing where people came from if people didn't treat them as if they were lower. Because she wants to try and break down these insecurities that cause problems for her peers of similar birth, she tends to act extremely proud of her muggle heritage, helping people with their Muggle Studies homework and standing up to those who would say anything about her parents heritage.

She is also the consummate optimist, believing the best about everyone until proven otherwise. She believes everyone can be redeemed, which was the major contributing factor to her relationship with James Potter. The good will always prevail in everyone, and in the world. Despite everything she has been through, she always retained this optimism. She feels her stubborn, argumentative nature is just trying to give people a push in the right direction. Because of this, some find her to be pushy and resent her trying to change them, but she's short sighted in this regard.

Lily’s very social, and was surrounded by people all her years at Hogwarts. She likes being around people and is definitely at her best in social situations.
History:
Lily Evans was born to Robert and Cecilia Evans of Surrey. Robert was a banker and Cecilia was a housewife staying at home with her children. Her older sister Petunia, 3 years old at the time, was thrilled to have a new doll to play with.

Lily’s magic first surfaced when she was 4. Petunia decided she needed a haircut, and Lily was never one to argue with her sister, whom she admired very much. However, Lily didn’t like the way it turned out, the haircut was reversed, and her flaming red hair reappeared. Petunia was the only one who noticed, but not wanting to tell her parents she cut Lily’s hair, there wasn’t much she could do about it.

Little events like this followed Lily through her childhood, but never to a detrimental effect. She was well liked at school by both teachers and students, and her friends were constantly over at her house to play. She was stubborn, bordering on bossy, but she was also kind and helpful and loved to have friends. No one seemed to notice much when certain things moved or fell without prompting.

Petunia constantly tried to form Lily in her own image, which Lily refused passively. They never fought, but Lily was stubborn as a mule and would find a way to get what she wanted out of situation. The sisters were very close, but as Lily got older, Petunia grew resentful of the attention Lily’s grades and popularity got.

One time when the sisters were arguing about Lily using her magic, they were watched by Severus Snape. Severus and Lily started talking, and he told her that there were others like her and more about the world they lived in. Lily ate up every piece of information she could find about the Wizarding World, and through this Severus and Lily became friends. Over the next few years, they spent a great deal of time together, and Lily wouldn’t hesitate to call Severus her best friend.

When she was 11, Lily received a letter that accepted her to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lily, of course, had known it was coming, but had hidden that fact from her parents. She was concerned that they wouldn’t let her go to the school, because she had always oversimplified her parents’ caution of her using magic in public as disapproval. When her parents verified the truth of the letter, they became very excited. They were glad to know that Lily would be able to use her gifts to their potential, and though they are nervous about sending their 11 year old to school so far away, they are confident in their decision to let her go. Lily wouldn’t have had it any other way.

In the summer preceding her first year, Petunia barely spoke to her. This was why Lily went along with Severus when he wanted to find out the contents of her letter from Dumbledore, even though she was secretly afraid her sister would end up even angrier with her. However, when she left on the train, they had a fight where Petunia had first referred to her and Severus as “freaks,” and that remained the tone of their conversations throughout Lily’s years at Hogwarts.

Her first night at Hogwarts found her being sorted into Gryffindor House. She was fine with this, but never thought of herself as particularly brave, so she didn’t know how right the hat was. She was also concerned about Severus’s dislike of Gryffindors, since he had seemed so disappointed they hadn’t been in the same house. She ended up fitting in very well in her new house, making a bunch of friends immediately. She also had many friends in other houses, especially Ravenclaw and Hufflepuffs, and remained friends with Severus.

First year gave Lily some insecurities, as she wasn’t comfortable around others who had already known more magic than she did. She performed well in all her classes, and seemed to have natural skill in Charms, Defense, and Potions (so much so that Horace Slughorn invited her to his exclusive club, which she attended even though she thought he was just a suck up most of the time). However, once news of her lineage was well-known, a certain group of older Slytherins took to constantly telling her she shouldn’t be at Hogwarts and called her “mudblood” whenever possible. She hated hearing that word, and responded violently to it. Her general dislike of Slytherins creeped up on her during these early years because of this, and while she tries in general to squelch it, those people who called her those names never stopped, and only started unleashing worse things onto other students.

Another group she immediately had troubles with was James Potter and his group of friends. They caused trouble in this school, and teased a lot of students, which made Lily furious. Because of her constant pestering, they pestered her back, taunting her for liking rules so much, and being so boring. This was only amplified in her 5th year when Lily was named prefect. This teasing didn’t bother Lily all that much; she always had a witty retort to spit back at them.

In the years following, James would turn his teasing on its head and start pursuing Lily romantically. Lily refused countless times over the next few years, and it only served to make her angrier with him. How could he expect her to go out with him when he treated people, especially Severus, the way he did? They were in near constant conflict through most of their later years at Hogwarts.

Also throughout these years, Lily found her friendship with Severus strained. He started to hang around with the very same Slytherins who tortured people like her. He tried to explain that she was different, but she still didn’t want to abide him going down that path. He also worried about James’s growing crush on her, and if she would indeed date him no matter how much she insisted that she never would. While Voldemort was rising, and talks of students joining the Death Eaters started going around the gossip circles, Lily started to worry about Severus. She tried to reason with him but soon she started to suspect he was planning on joining the Death Eaters himself.
